G’day Everyone,
Every day this year I’ve written a half-page journal entry. The past 7 months I deemed it more important than ever to be hyper self-aware as I went through a turbulent and at times lonely period growing the business. Hence, writing daily was important to me. That being said, I’ve always been a writer - I’ve kept journals dating back to my final year in high school. Ever since I started writing back when I was 17, I thought it would be cool to read back on how my life had transformed over the years. One thing that’s remained consistent in my writing has been how I sign off each entry;
“Small wins every day.

Jack”.
Being involved in a business where uncertainty is the name of the game, it’s helped me to make sense of my days and ensure I continue to move things forward.
Since starting the business, I’ve always been goal orientated. To begin with, I was focused on raising money, getting an app to market, growing a team, etc. All these things seemed enormous, unfamiliar and out of reach at the time. But setting little goals each day to achieve them allowed them to become a reality. As a team, we’ve set new ambitious goals and know the only way to achieve them is by focussing on small wins each day. Our new goals include:
Building out the app to assist people not only discover great investing ideas but validate them (make informed decisions)
Entering the execution/trading space (currently, just an app to discover ideas)
Getting our hands on a financial services license (which are usually only handed out to experienced finance leaders *old people)
Raising more capital etc
These are big goals that take months if not years to achieve. But as alluded to above, what keeps me sane & motivated each day I come to work is knowing that a good day only requires me to move the dial slightly forward on each of these above goals. It’s achievable. It’s manageable. If I can write in my diary at night that I’ve done this, I sleep well. If I’m unsatisfied at night, I write that and try to figure out a reason why I was unsuccessful and improve on it the next day. Sometimes it’s because I hadn’t exercised for a while. Sometimes it’s because I didn’t sleep enough. Sometimes I’m worried that I don’t have any balance in my life. Sometimes I’ve just had a shit day… regardless, I like the idea of breaking down big goals into smaller more achievable daily goals (small wins). And it’s even more exciting stringing a bunch of these small wins together and achieving bigger wins. It’s a long journey the team and I are on at Insyde and therefore it’s even more important we are focused on the small wins. One day, when it all comes together, we’ll be able to look back on our consistency and focus to achieve small things every day as the reason why we were able to be successful.
I’d love to hear what other things people are working on in their life or looking to embark on. I promise you, I’ll be your number one supporter! New hobbies, health goals, relationship goals, etc. Hit me up - I’m always keen to chat.
Chat soon lovely people,
JC
